Don't Eat Before VO

Today (the day this blog was published is the same day I wrote it) I was reading "The Art of Voice Acting" and I read about a part for what not to do right before starting your VO. It said to never do your VO right after you ate. It said that if you do then your voice will sound not as active and kinda slurpy (I'm not sure 'slurpy' is a word). the author said that he knew a voice actor who didn't eat anything from about between 9-7 hours before she did her VO. So there's a tip: don't eat at least an hour before you do your VO.

Using Quotes for VO (8): One Ring To Rule Them All

Well, it's already number 8! It sure doesn't seem like I started this about 8 days ago. I will also put the script on every time I make a blog post.

Here's the script:

“Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,

Seven for the Dwarf-lords in halls of stone,

Nine for Mortal Men, doomed to die,

One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,

One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them."

Using Quotes for VO (7): One Ring To Rule Them All

My favorite part of the script when I read it is this part:

"One Ring to rule them all,

One Ring to find them,

One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them."

This is also my dad's favorite part in this recording because he says I sound more unified in my thought, rather than a bunch of different words put together.

Here is the whole script if you want to try interpreting it yourself:

“Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,

Seven for the Dwarf-lords in halls of stone,

Nine for Mortal Men, doomed to die,

One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,

One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them."

Using Quotes for VO (6): One Ring To Rule Them All

“Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,

Seven for the Dwarf-lords in halls of stone,

Nine for Mortal Men, doomed to die,

One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,

One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them."

In this recording I don't feel like "Nine for Mortal Men, doomed to die" is said in the right way. But I don't know what it is about it.

I found a video on Youtube where J.R.R. Tolkien is reading One Ring To Rule Them All. Here's the video:

what I like about this interpretation is that Tolkien reads it fast when other people read it fast it doesn't sound good, and the reason it sounds really good when he reads it is because he can say it with power.
